Grass Lily

(Chlorophytum comosum )

Graslily

The grass lily is a strong, fast-growing houseplant from South Africa. You will recognise it by its gracefully drooping, green-white leaves. This easy plant not only brings lively greenery into your home, but also acts as a natural air purifier.

Size: about 30 to 50 centimetres high and 30 to 60 centimetres wide.

Care

Light: the grass lily prefers a bright spot in the house. With sufficient sunlight and good care, the leaf tips can even form small flower buds.

Water: the grass lily likes sun as much as it likes water. Water as soon as the soil feels dry. Do this in small sprouts to avoid drowning the plant.

Potting soil

Bio soilmix

This potting soil is ideal for fast-growing plants such as the grass lily as the plant nutrients are released gradually. The wood and coconut fibres provide a stable water buffer and the biostimulants, seaweed and natural minerals encourage healthy soil life and strong growth.

Fertilizers

Bio 8-2-2

  • Occasionally give your grass lily this organic food to keep it beautiful and healthy. The plant amino acids and trace elements stimulate growth and leaf development. The low salt content minimises the risk of over-fertilisation.

Cuttings & propagation

To take cuttings from your grass lily, cut off one of its shoots and put the plant directly into a pot with slightly moist potting soil, or let it root in a glass of water first. Within a few weeks, it will grow into a new, independent plant.

Interesting fact

The grass lily grows quickly and forms many offshoots that you can easily propagate. Ideal for giving as a green gift to family or friends. Moreover, it is completely safe for cats and dogs and can even show small, white flowers indoors if cared for properly.
