GROW WHERE YOU ARE IN BELGIUM

Raspberries and blueberries. Ultimate summer delight. Demand for them is rising sharply, and demand for organically grown soft fruit is rising even more sharply if possible. And that certainly applies to fruit that is grown 'close to home' and therefore has a lower carbon footprint. Cellmax supports a Belgian project bringing together all the good things about this type of cultivation.

In early 2019, Cellmax was asked to contribute to a project in Belgium to investigate whether soft fruits such as strawberries, raspberries and berries can be grown organically with sufficient yields and good plant characteristics. The aim of this two-year experiment was to get organic growers excited about the result and challenge them to get involved themselves. Cellmax provided good information and the necessary products

Johan Wolters, founder of Cellmax and working daily to make his products even more organic, says: "The challenge here in Flanders is to turn traditional farming into organic and more sustainable growing. And where a successful harvest is of course also a 'must'. This is certainly not easy within the high legal requirements, including European control and Flemish legislation."

Plant origin

The project group approached Cellmax to test with the organic potting soil and Cellmax Bio plant nutrients. Wolters says: "They chose this not only because of the organic certification of our products, but also because the ingredients score very well in terms of sustainability. In addition, the Cellmax Bio line contains only ingredients of plant origin. This also makes raising this organic soft fruit completely vegan.
