Strawberry plant

(Fragaria x ananassa)

Hardberry plant

The strawberry plant is a low-growing, perennial plant that produces juicy, sweet fruits. This popular garden plant feels at home in both open ground and a pot and propagates easily.

Size: 15 to 30 centimetres high and 30 to 50 centimetres wide (depending on the
care).

Care

Light: this plant is a sun lover. So, it thrives best in a sunny or semi-shaded spot.

Water: For the tastiest fruit, it is important that the soil is well moist. Therefore, water the plant at least twice a week, depending on how dry the soil is.

Tip: Water the plant in the morning. This allows the soil to dry up during the day. The soil stays wet all night if you water in the evening. Strawberries don't like that.

Potting soil

Cellmax Coco Soilmix

the coconut fibres in this substrate retain water. This provides a stable water buffer and keeps the soil well moist. Ideal for the strawberry plant. This mix keeps the plant's growth and flowering controllable because it is not pre-fertilised. So you decide which fertiliser to use and how much.

Bio Soilmix

this organic potting soil is plant-based and free of animal fertilisers. Perfect if you go for organic cultivation. The unique composition of ingredients ensures healthy and strong growth and rich fruit yields.

Cuttings & Propagation

Strawberry plants make long, fast-growing offshoots. While still attached to the mother plant, place these offshoots in a pot of potting soil or directly in the open ground. Keep the soil slightly moist. After 3 to 4 weeks, when the plant is well rooted, you can cut it loose. The best time for this is autumn or early spring. Want to give root growth an extra boost? Then use the Cellmax root booster.

Interesting fact

Did you know that the strawberry plant is actually a small shrub? Originally, it grows naturally along forest edges, where it thrives in the lee of trees. Want to make the most of your strawberry plant?
